How to reset your PSN password if you forgot it or the email from PlayStation doesn't arrive

A PlayStation Network password is reset via the email address the account was registered with. In most cases two minutes is enough, but buyers from Russia face some difficulties: Sony emails end up in spam, and the email for an account from another region is sometimes set up in a hurry and then forgotten. Let's go through it step by step.

Standard password reset

  1. Open the PlayStation account sign-in page on Sony's website or on the console and click “Forgot password?”.
  2. Enter your account email (this is your sign-in ID, not your profile nickname).
  3. Confirm your date of birth if asked.
  4. Open the email from PlayStation and follow the link. The link is valid for a limited time, so don't put it off.
  5. Create a new password: at least 8 characters, with letters and numbers, and different from your email password.

After changing your password, your console and PS App will ask you to sign in again. If two-step verification is enabled, you'll need a code from SMS, an authenticator app, or a backup code.

Email not arriving

  • Check the "Spam" folder and the "Promotions" tab. Sony emails often end up there.
  • Wait 15–20 minutes and request the reset again. Sony ignores several requests in a row.
  • Make sure you enter exactly the email the account was created with. On the console, you can see it in "Settings → Users and Accounts → Account → Sign-In Information".
  • Add Sony's sender addresses to your mailbox whitelist if your filters are strict.

No access to the account's email

If the mailbox is deleted, blocked or you've forgotten its password too, first recover the email through your email provider: Gmail, Mail.ru and Yandex each have their own recovery procedures using a phone number and a backup address. Without access to the email, Sony changes the password only through support after verifying the owner, and that takes a long time.

Password reset by a specialist

To save time, order the service "PSN account password reset": a specialist will reset the password and send the new one to the website, email and Telegram, usually within an hour during business hours 10:00–23:00 MSK. You'll need access to the account's email. If you've lost access to two-step verification along with the password, the following service will work: "PSN access recovery: 2FA and password", details in the guide about the two-step verification code.

For the account owner only. A specialist may ask you to confirm that the account is yours: for example, to show purchase receipts or console details. If ownership isn't confirmed, we will decline and refund your money. We don't recover other people's accounts.

After recovery

In "Security", check that you have access to your two-step verification method, save your backup codes and sign out on devices you don't recognize. If the account has PS Plus or purchased games, everything stays in place: a password reset doesn't affect purchases.
