DNS setup on PS4 and PS5

Due to blocking of some PlayStation Network servers, some players' consoles can't “see” the PSN network: the library is empty, PS Store won't open, games won't load, and creating a user gives a network error. Changing the DNS on the console helps most often. It takes 3–5 minutes.

Important. This method doesn't work for everyone: a lot depends on your provider and connection type. The settings change only on your console and can be switched back to “Automatic” at any time.

First: the library is empty (“Purchased” — 0 games)

Try restoring licenses — sometimes that's enough:

If an error appears CE-30035, it says “could not connect to the server”, or the restore screen hangs for a long time — set up DNS (addresses and instructions for PS4 and PS5 are below).

Which addresses to enter

Enter them on two lines — “Primary” and “Secondary”. Tap an address to copy it. The first pair doesn't always work — if the error persists, restart the console and try the next one on the list.

  1. Open Settings → Network → Set Up Internet Connection.
  2. Choose a method: Use Wi-Fi or Use a LAN cable — how the console is connected to the internet.
  3. Select the option “Custom”.
  4. For Wi-Fi, select your network and press X (enter your Wi-Fi password if prompted).
  5. “IP Address Settings” — Automatic.
  6. “DHCP Host Name” — Do not specify.
  7. “DNS Settings” — Manual.
  8. Enter “Primary DNS” and “Secondary DNS” from the address list (zeros by default) and press “Next”.
  9. “MTU Settings” — Automatic. “Proxy Server” — Do not use.
  10. Press “Test Internet Connection” — everything should say “Success”.
  11. Exit the settings and restart the console — without this, the changes won't take effect.

This same setting often helps with the error NW-102636-8 when creating a new user (“Failed to connect to the server within the specified time”).

Didn't help?

  • Restart the console and the router, then try the next pair of addresses.
  • Connect to a different internet connection: a phone hotspot or another provider. This shows right away whether the problem is the provider or the console.
  • If the library on PS4 is still empty, run “Restore Licenses” again after changing DNS.
  • If the game won't launch even though PSN works, tell our support what appears on the screen and when (error code and photo).

DNS setup is done on your console and your network, so we can't guarantee the result for every provider. We don't recommend proxy servers from the internet: your console's data goes through them.
